Chess · Step 2 of 4
Chess Foundations
Grades 1–2 (ages 6–8) · 8 weekly classes · 45 min · up to 8 students · live online
Students learn every rule, including castling and promotion, and what each piece is worth, so every trade becomes a decision. They practice their first checkmates and begin writing down their moves.
Your child will be able to
- Tell checkmate from stalemate
- Use piece values to judge a trade
- Mate with a queen or two rooks
Where this step fits
What you need
- A computer or tablet with a camera and microphone
- A quiet spot for the whole class
- A chess set at home helps, but isn't required
